New Jersey
High Point
Elevation: 1,803 feet
My photography may actually do the condition of the high point justice.
You like this self portrait, check out the one I took the next morning in West Virginia.
High Point was my second of three summits on Summer Vacation 2004. The route home from Avon, CT to Huntsville, AL passed within five miles of the New Jersey highest point, so this one was a no-brainer. Much like my visit to Delaware back in '02, I reached the summit around sunset. Luckily, in this instance, I arrived before the sun went down. Unfortunately, the summit monument tower was under construction and thus fenced off. The parking lot was deserted, though the rest of the state park showed signs of vacationers. I located one USGS reference marker and took some snapshots as the sun lingered behind one last cloud before making for the horizon. As I walked back to the Cavalier, a couple kids rode up on bikes but seemed more interested in the empty parking lot than the tower.
